This is sad and scary.
This guy, in a retinal detachment support group I’m in is discussing his frustrations/obstacles with the national health system in the U.K. He had surgery recently and cannot get in for a checkup for 55 weeks. That’s insane. Many retinal issues are hard or impossible to see until they’re bad.
When I had surgery here, I was seen very frequently, then appointments stretched out if there were no issues found. 10 years later, I’m at 2-yr checkups, but right after my surgery or after an issue was found a few times, my follow up appointments were never more than 6 weeks apart, sometimes as close as 2 weeks.
Yes, he can go private and pay, but that’s not the point. “Free healthcare for all” should be GOOD healthcare or it’s not worth it. People need to realize the two are NOT synonymous.
