In a long conversation about the minimum wage, racism (Yes, he accused me of being racist because I believe minimum wage should be abolished!), and a great many other topics with which I disagree, I was asked about the Great depression, and then after explaining a few things about it — someone else’s threads —
The guy said, “So who recovered our economy?”
Reality? There was no recovery. The unemployment rate is over 50% now. There are more people on Welfare, not working, than there are working in this country. There are more people taking money from the government till than there are paying money into it. And we’re trillions of dollars in debt. This isn’t a recovered economy, or even a recovering economy. It’s an economy that is insolvent, morally bankrupt, and indecently exposed at the root cause.. immorality. We kill our children and call it personal choice. We ruin our families and call it sexual equality. We’re so far in debt we’ll never see our way out, and as a nation, more than 50% of the people don’t care, because they want what they believe they deserve for FREE. What we as a nation have accepted as status quo is disgusting, despicable, and totally unacceptable, and we call it tolerance.
And still, we are America. Exceptional because we are living proof that there’s a better way, and it works. But few will accept the responsibility and the work required to take this nation where she must go to achieve greatness again. Why? Because everyone is “entitled” to healthcare, and a living wage, and we keep telling ourselves we earn it.
No. We don’t. But we COULD if we all made the choice to work for it again.
